Production Blog: Editing and Transitions

Image
Crafting the perfect transitions for our video became a captivating challenge. We recognized the transitions as crucial elements in enhancing the flow of our storytelling. Experimentation became our mantra as we delved into various transition styles. From subtle fades to dynamic wipes, each transition held the potential to elevate our narrative. We spent hours meticulously fine-tuning each transition to ensure seamless continuity. Discussion and collaboration fueled our quest for the most effective transitions. Every transition was a puzzle piece, contributing to the overall coherence of our video. We explored different software tools and techniques to achieve the desired transitions. The process was a blend of creativity, trial, and error, as we sought the perfect balance. Sometimes, simplicity proved most impactful, while other moments called for flair and innovation. Each transition underwent rigorous scrutiny, ensuring it served the story without overshadowing it. We drew inspirati

Production Blog: Choosing My Music

Image
In the whirlwind of filmmaking, amidst all the excitement and challenges, one of the most daunting tasks we faced was selecting the perfect song to accompany our scenes. We understood the pivotal role that music plays in enhancing the cinematic experience, but little did we know just how tricky finding the right tune would be. Hours upon hours were devoted to scouring through countless playlists, on an endless quest for that elusive melody that would capture the essence of our story. As a team, we all had our own ideas and preferences when it came to the soundtrack, which led to passionate debates and conflicting opinions. We ventured into various genres, from catchy pop tunes to heartfelt ballads, hoping to strike the perfect chord with our audience. However, despite our best efforts, every song we considered seemed to fall short of our expectations. With looming deadlines and mounting pressure, the search for the ideal track became increasingly frustrating. We revisited scenes repeat

Production Blog: Compiling Our Scenes

Image
Today marked the climax of our editing odyssey! Before putting the finishing touches on our project, we decided to capture some extra scenes just as a safety net. It was a thrilling opportunity to venture beyond our usual filming spots and add some fresh elements to our story. Opting for my mom's spacious van for the car scenes turned out to be a brilliant move. Its generous space accommodated all our equipment and crew with ease. Filming inside the van was an absolute riot! We couldn't resist goofing around and having a blast while getting those last shots. After wrapping up our filming session, we treated ourselves to a leisurely lunch break to refuel before diving back into our editing tasks. The afternoon flew by as we polished off the remaining shots in just an hour. With some daylight left, we indulged in some relaxing fishing, taking advantage of the serene waters as the perfect backdrop for additional footage. As the sun dipped below the horizon, we wrapped up filming,

Production Blog: Editing

As the editing guru of our group, it was up to me to piece together all the footage we captured into a cinematic masterpiece. Considering my experience as the editor for our previous project, everyone agreed that I was the right person for the job. Plus, I've picked up a bunch of new editing tricks along the way, so I was pumped to put them to good use. Since I have the beefiest computer in the group, we initially planned to gather at my place for the editing session. But then we had a lightbulb moment – why not have a virtual meeting instead? So, we huddled up over a phone call, which gave us all more flexibility. Our first task was settling on the editing software. After some back and forth, we settled on Cap-cut – it seemed like the best fit for our needs. Then, it was game time. I dove into editing while the rest of the crew chimed in with their suggestions and tweaks along the way. We spent ages perfecting the transitions between scenes – seriously, it felt like we were in tr

Production Blog: Last Filming Touches

Today's blog wraps up our filming journey, and I'm stoked to share our adventures outside the house and off the streets – yep, you guessed it, the car scenes! So, first order of business: choosing the wheels for our cinematic ride. Luckily, we had a few options, but we settled on my mom's van. Why? Because it's spacious enough to fit all our gear and us, of course! It's like a mini studio on wheels. Picture this: four of us piled into the van, gear in tow, ready to hit the road and capture some movie magic. And let me tell you, it was a blast! Who knew filming from a moving vehicle could be so exhilarating? We took a break for lunch around 2 PM, refueling for the rest of our adventure. Back to filming, we nailed every shot in record time – about an hour tops! With our mission accomplished, we decided to enjoy the great outdoors. Fishing seemed like the perfect way to unwind, especially with the chilly weather keeping things interesting. And hey, why not film a bit

Production Blog: Continuing Filming

Image
Hey everyone, its me Blake again, today's blog post focuses on our recent filming experience, particularly the night scenes we worked on. We decided that the optimal time for filming these scenes was around 7 PM, aiming to capture the darkness and ambiance of the night. One of the main challenges we encountered was locating the perfect filming location. It was crucial for the street to be deserted to avoid any disturbances from passing traffic, which could have compromised the quality of our footage and audio. To scout for the ideal spot, we embarked on a drive around the area, spending nearly 45 minutes in search of the right place. Eventually, our perseverance paid off, and we stumbled upon a street that met all our criteria. It was dimly lit, with minimal traffic passing through. After securing the location, we wasted no time in setting up our equipment and rehearsing our scenes. Our group meticulously went over the script once more, fine-tuning the angles and movements required

Production Blog - Initially Filming

Image
Hey everyone, welcome back to another one of my blogs! In this one, me and my group members met back up and continued filming. Firstly, I got picked up by Ben, a group member with a license. After he picked me up, he went to get the rest of our group members. We all had decided prior for the location of our filming, so we drove there. It took about 25 minutes to make it to our location. I had brought inside the bag of props and materials we needed for preparing the set, while Ben and Nicolas were in charge of getting the filming and accessories ready. This strategy of me and Tom being the ones to set up the area and Ben and Nicolas setting up the camera work sped up our process. I'm glad my group got this done easily and fast, we managed to be prepared in under an hour of being there. We then finished filming in our location after a hour of us filming. It took a while for us to get the right shots however. After a couple attempts we got it right though. For me the script was the ha

Production Blog - Scheduling

Image
Hey everyone, I'm back with another blog! This one is about how we planned out our filming and editing schedule. We decided it would be a good idea to film early. So, me and my group members decided that the first step was that we all understood our parts of the script. We all had joined a call one night, and spent about 2 hours reviewing and understanding our scripts fully. We discussed our lines, actions, and camera shots. Eventually, we all came to an agreement on everything. The next thing we needed to plan was our time and dates for shooting and filming. Ben and Nicolas were available the first weekend of February, but me and Tom weren't able to make it those times. We rescheduled however, to a later date that the all of us could make it to. The third weekend of February being the date we all agreed upon, and filmed throughout then and the following Monday since there was no school. Luckily, one of my group members Ben had gained his license this week as well, making it ea
