Music Video - initially editing
Hey, its me Blake again and in this blog I'm going to walk you through my editing process for my music video. Since I already have the clips and the music, all I have to do now is compile everything together in my editing software. Since we wanted an upbeat and all around happy feeling to be presented, we chose the song "All Star", which is perfect for what I was looking for. Gabriel was the main subject of the video, and we wanted him to be able to show his appreciation for basketball by doing something he enjoys. The footage that I chose were from many, so not all of them made the cut. I decided to watch all the clips and select the ones I thought were well planned out to use. Since I already have knowledge on editing, I used a more advanced software called "Adobe After Effects" throughout this project. I've implemented many techniques, such as jump cuts being timed on the songs beats. I believe this aspect continues the upbeat and aliveness of the project I wanted. It fits nicely with the joyful music and the goofy scenes. There were some timeline issues I had faced as well though. I had lined up part of the song with what he was lip syncing and there was blank space before then with no previous clips to use. So I decided to find one from further and edit it and mirror it to seem like it fit the timeline. I also decided to use the plugin called Magic Bullet, which is amazing for color grading inside of the editing software. It allows me to enhance and prioritize the perfection of color correction by giving me more tools to work with, and even presets to work from. Overall it definitely helped bring the warm tone to the music video, and am glad I was able to use it here. For our video, Gabriel had shot multiple goofy and totally abnormal shots with the basketball, and many of the cuts were to the hoop being swished by the ball. Since we only recorded one swoosh of the basketball, I improvised from just using the one still swoosh, and mirroring and displacing the hoop in some of the other shots. I believe it created the effect of multiple swooshes I was going for. While this project is close to being done, there are final touches that need to be made with the editing, and I'd like to get feedback even before posting. Thanks for tuning in again, see you next time!
