1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?

"In my research blog, I intentionally decided to stray a little from the norms of the genre. While I did incorporate some established elements, my goal was to bring in aspects that would add a fresh dimension to the content. The content wasn't strictly following the patterns; instead, I played around with narrative structures and explored different angles to offer a distinctive and engaging perspective. This intentional choice aimed at creating content that feels familiar yet provides an engaging and thought-provoking outlook for the audience. Regarding representation, the video primarily depicts an enjoyable weekend activity without explicitly focusing on any specific social groups or issues. It's about celebrating the joy of playing basketball and finding pleasure in that pastime. The intention wasn't to delve into societal problems or represent any particular demographic but rather to showcase an easygoing and relatable experience. The video revolves around having more fun shooting hoops than actively addressing social matters; it's about capturing the laid-back enjoyment of a favorite activity without delving into specific social commentary. The goal was to keep it light-hearted and enjoyable, appealing to a diverse audience by highlighting the universal enjoyment found in recreational pursuits."

2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?

The video I created has a mix of enjoyable moments that anyone can connect with. It captures the carefree spirit of a weekend activity giving viewers a sense of fun and familiarity that appeals to a range of people. What sets it apart is its simplicity and the way it celebrates an activity that many can relate to making it appealing and easy to watch. The video's charm lies in its ability to transport viewers into an enjoyable moment making it an entertaining piece that you can easily enjoy. If this video was meant for distribution, choosing the platform would depend on how well it aligns with the video's vibe and target audience. Considering the nature of the content YouTube seems like a fit because of its versatility and broad reach. YouTubes diverse user base and support for videos would be ideal for showcasing the experience of the weekend basketball story. Additionally, utilizing media platforms like TikTok to share teasers or snippets could be a strategy to generate interest and direct traffic towards the main video on YouTube. By combining these platforms you can ensure exposure and engagement, across demographics.

3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project?

Throughout this project my skills in production have grown immensely. At the beginning I focused on honing my ability to conceptualize and plan. The process of coming up with ideas was truly eye opening; it taught me how important it is to have a vision and a compelling narrative for the video. This involved brainstorming sessions, bouncing ideas off my team members and refining the concept to make sure everything flowed cohesively. Keep the audience engaged. Collaborating with others during this phase was crucial in shaping the idea.

During the execution phase I deepened my understanding of aspects such as filming, editing and post production. I learned about the intricacies of framing shots, adjusting lighting to set the mood and capturing the essence of the story visually. Managing equipment behind the scenes and coordinating with my team became nature to me. Additionally during post production I had the opportunity to explore software like Adobe After Effects and further refine my editing skills.

However perhaps one of the parts of this whole experience was receiving feedback after sharing our video. It was a learning curve for me. Observing audience reactions and reading their comments provided insights into what worked and what needed improvement. Analyzing this feedback helped me understand audience preferences better – what resonated with them – so that we could continuously improve our projects through a process of creation, feedback incorporation and refinement. This experience has made me more adaptable and open to making adjustments as necessary in order to ensure improvement, in all our endeavors.

I gained an understanding of the video production process through the journey of coming up with ideas, putting them into action and then learning from the audience's feedback loop.

4. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?

When it came to recording the footage I decided to use my phone as a camera. The reason behind this choice was mainly because my phone has a camera quality and is very convenient to carry around. Its portability allowed me to capture moments without the need for equipment. Even though a professional camera might have some advantages, the quality and ease of use of my phone made it a perfect fit for this project.

For editing purposes I relied on After Effects since I am familiar with the software. It has editing features especially when it comes to effects and precise editing, which played a crucial role in enhancing the video. In addition to After Effects I used Cap Cut and iMovie. While After Effects provides functionalities, Capcut and iMovie offered a user interface and quick editing options that simplified certain parts or when I needed straightforward edits without the complexity of After Effects.

When it came to blogging about the project I chose Blogger due to its simplicity and ease of use. This platform allowed me to easily share updates, progress reports and reflections on the project. With its user interface and seamless integration with multimedia content Blogger was a choice for documenting the journey of this project.

Each tool was chosen for its advantages; the phone, for its quality and ease of carrying After Effects for its advanced editing features Cap Cut and iMovie for their user-friendly interfaces and Blogger for its convenience in blogging and sharing content. The combination of these technologies played a role in achieving a rounded and effective project implementation.

Overall the entirety of this project has allowed me to learn and adapt to challenges and things I may need later on in my career choices. I'm greatly appreciative for this opportunity and cannot wait to see what we can add to our skillset later on!
